The family of a woman who died after being hit by a police vehicle on the A120 in Braintree have paid tribute to her.

In a family statement, they said Sandra Stirling, 33, of Lister Road, Braintree, had been living in the town for about eight years.

They said: "She always seemed to be a popular person among her circle of friends.

"Although she did not have children of her own, she took great comfort from her four nephews. It was always a wish of hers that one day she would have her own children."

Her mother added she was such a lovely daughter but someone who never grew up.

Ms Stirling was hit by the police vehicle in the early hours last Thursday.

A spokesman for the Independent Police Complaints Commission, which is leading the investigation into Ms Stirling's death, said: "We can confirm she was alive when she was hit by the police vehicle."
