Avents, off Station Street, Walton, has suffered three fires, major thefts, a shut down and has risen again from the ashes in its 47 year history.
But the company is now facing a new era by moving to a new location in the district.
The land it is based on, beside the town's train station, has been sold to developers with the plan of being transformed into houses.
Peter Avent, whose father Fred started the company in 1958, said the long-overdue move was an "exciting prospect" and one all 11 workers were determined to make.
The staff, from upholsterers to sewing machinists, many of whom have been with the company since teenagers, will stay with the business but it is yet to be confirmed whereabouts in Tendring it will move to.
