Disabled people will benefit from a new suite to be opened at Colchester General Hospital to meet their needs while they are receiving treatment.

Fundraisers for the eastern region of John Groom's, the national charity for the disabled, have worked tirelessly for 18 months to get the money for project.

Ann Wild, who captained Great Britain's Paralympic women's basketball team in Athens last year, has agreed to officially open the suite.

Volunteers, hospital staff and representatives of Essex Rivers Healthcare NHS Trust, will watch the opening of the suite, which is on the Eastthorpe ward in the Gainsborough wing.

The suite will boast a specialised bathroom and bed along with wheelchair access. The opening of the new facility will take place on Friday at 11am.
