Burglars smashed their way into a village hall and broke open a payphone.

They caused hundreds of pounds of damage as they got in through the fire doors at Layer de la Haye village hall and forced open locked cupboards.

A telephone, expected to cost £200 to replace, was pulled off the wall and money taken from inside.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the burglary at the hall in New Cut, Layer, which was reported at 10am on Sunday.
