An investigation has been launched after a man was rescued from a smoke-filled house.
Firefighters were called to the scene in Ardleigh shortly after 12.30pm yesterday. They were alerted after a passer-by saw smoke coming from the house at John De Bois Hill.
It was completely filled with smoke, making conditions difficult for fire crews. But four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus managed to locate a man inside the house and get him out safely.
The 63-year-old was given first aid by firefighters at the scene. He was then taken to hospital, suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke.
A spokesman for Essex Fire and Rescue Service said the incident was being investigated jointly with the police.
