A woman found dead on the A120 after being struck by a police vehicle has been named.
Sandra Stirling, 33, of Lister Road, Braintree, was hit by a police Nissan Navara, near the Notley Road bridge, just before 1.30am on Thursday.
It is not yet clear whether Ms Stirling died as a result of the collision or whether she was already dead.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is carrying out a managed investigation into the circumstances of the collision to determine whether it could have been avoided.
Essex Police are investigating the wider circumstances of how she came to be on the road.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Ms Stirling died of multiple injuries. The results of further tests are awaited and the woman's family are being informed of the outcome.
Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen Ms Stirling in the hours prior to her death to contact them on 01376 551312
