GRAYS's fine season continued with an emphatic victory in the FA Trophy on Saturday, but there was disappointment on Sunday for Thurrock who bowed out at Slough.
Grays were dominant throughout and led 2-0 at half time through Steve West and Leroy Griffiths. Denis Oli added a third midway through the first half and in the closing minutes West completed a hat-trick.
Thurrock had high hopes travelling to Slough but a solitary goal from Len Harris thwarted the possibility of a visit to Villa Park.
While both Grays and Thurrock are bidding for promotion from the Conference South, another borough team are heading towards moving up a league.
East Thurrock United have enjoyed a superb run of recent results and capped them all with a great 2-0 win at Uxbridge on Saturday to move ahead of the home side into the Southern League Division One East's second automatc promotion spot.
Boosted by an easy 4-0 derby win against struggling Tilbury in midweek, the Rocks took a second minute lead through Keith Martin at Uxbridge and wrapped up the points with Dean Chandler's 58th minute goal.
Rock bottom Tilbury thought things were bad on Tuesday, but they got immeasurably worse on Saturday when Maldon Town visited Chadfields and thrashed them 7-0.
There was disappointment too for Aveley. After a recent run of good results they will have travelled optimistically to Sittingbourne but came back from Kent after suffering a 3-0 defeat.
