Residents evacuated a block of flats after a blaze started in a kitchen.
Firefighters believe the fire started when the 42-year-old occupant of one of the flats left a pan unattended for a short while.
This was enough for it to catch fire and then take hold to his kitchen in Worcester Court on Marine Parade West, Clacton, at 11.19pm yesterday.
Leading firefighter Darren Fearn from Clacton fire station said two crews went to the scene.
He praised the actions of the four other residents of the flats who had already evacuated before they got there.
