Raiders smashed open the gates of a yard and stole a lorry and £250,000 of designer quilts.
The gates of the yard in Maudlyn Road, in the Hythe area of Colchester, were found to have been rammed after thieves drove off with the Leyland Daf vehicle.
A Colchester police spokesman today appealed for help to trace the raiders and asked anyone who had seen anything which could help, to come forward.
He said the lorry driver called police after going to the site and finding the vehicle and Linda Barker quilts, worth £250,000, had been taken from the industrial unit.
Police said the raid caused £5,000 damage to the gates. The thieves did not leave any vehicles at the scene. It was reported at about 3.50am yesterday.
