Ali Danesh's surgery is earmarked for demolition as part of Colchester's £250 million pound facelift of St Botolph's.
Developers want to tear down the 180-year-old building and replace it with new shops near the flagship art gallery site.
But Mr Danesh says Colchester should hang on to its heritage.
"Colchester is the oldest town in England," he said. "They should keep the character of the town centre, but they want to kill its history in the name of art or culture.
"They want to demolish this old building and put up concrete and glass instead. It will ruin the old town."
