Young dancers have joined the battle to save Eastwood Community Centre.
The centre is one of several across Southend that could be closed by Southend Council as the authority looks to make massive cuts to its budget.
Dance teacher Pamela Freedman, who has run lessons at the centre in Western Approaches, for more than 20 years, has started a petition.
She said: "I have 120 students from more than 70 families and we are an established part of the local community.
"There is not a lot for the younger children to do in Eastwood. If the council closes this building. what are they going to do?"
