A school crossing saga is "ludicrous" and putting children's lives at risk, according to councillors
Harwich Town Council on Tuesday night criticised the local education authority for having safety measures outside a closed school while nothing has been provided for a new one.
Essex County Council wants to remove a crossing and amber lights outside the old Harwich Primary School in Main Road.
But the new primary school is still awaiting safety measures to solve traffic problems outside its building in Barrack Lane.
At the meeting, Lawrie Payne, who is chairman of governors at Harwich Primary School, said: "They are meant to be protecting the safety of our children going to school and they haven't done this and it is almost criminal."
The town council will write to Essex County Council with its concerns as a matter of urgency.
