The visitors from in and around Beijing took a tour of the Tabor School in Braintree, chatting with pupils through an interpreter.
They also took part in the very English custom of afternoon tea, which headteacher Steven Clark regularly takes with pupils to reward them for good behaviour.
Tabor had been recommended for the visit, along with Helena Romanes school in Dunmow, as schools that had shown particular improvement under new headteachers.
