A daring daylight raid saw 15 laptop computers stolen from a car outside a Colchester hotel.
The thieves broke into the vehicle at the Holiday Inn, Eight Ash Green, yesterday within view of CCTV cameras.
Police were today hunting the crooks who got away with the £15,000 haul.
The laptops were meant to aid a teacher consultants' training day to be held at one of the hotel's seven conference rooms. The course is run by East Essex Adult Education College's site, the Wickford Centre.
An Essex County Council spokesman said: "There was nothing confidential on the laptops and the matter is now in the hands of the police."
