A multi-million pound redevelopment of northern Colchester is set to get the go-ahead later this month when a major legal hurdle is cleared.
Colchester Council has reached agreement with the NHS on the redevelopment on the former Severalls Hospital. 9087-24
It will see £30 million worth of facilities for the town, including a new A12 junction, education and community centres.
Colchester Council has now reached an agreement with representatives from the NHS over what facilities must be provided in return for getting planning permission for building 1,500 houses at the former Severalls Hospital.
The document must now be approved by the owners of the former hospital. The North East Essex Mental Health Trust board will be asked to approve it at its meeting on February 23. The document is also being sent to the Secretary of State for Health, Dr John Reid, for his approval.
It is hoped the deal will be formally agreed by all parties by the end of February, paving the way for detailed plans being submitted for the development.
