A special number plate checking operation by Braintree police last night has led to one man being arrested on suspicion of deception.
The 35-year-old man, wanted on suspicion of deception in Suffolk for the last two years, was stopped by police on the Colchester-bound carriageway of the A12 at Witham.
Numerous other drivers were also stopped thanks to an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system fitted in a police van.
As a vehicle passes, the ANPR camera snaps the number plate. From its intelligence database, the computer can tell immediately if there is a reason to stop the driver.
The man from Suffolk was taken to Braintree police station, where he is helping police with their inquiries.
