The A12 will be upgraded to a three-lane carriageway as part of work on the new A120 route.
The extra A12 lanes will be added between Kelvedon and Marks Tey. This comes after the Gazette revealed plans for a new dual carriageway between the A12 at Marks Tey and Braintree.
The proposals for the link have been welcomed by Essex County Council. The Highways Agency plans for the new A120 will enable the existing route to be reclassified as a B road, bringing traffic relief to nearby villages.
The £220 million plan will go on show to the public at a series of exhibitions across the area on Friday.
