A swimming instructor has demanded Castle Point Council drops a ruling that parents can only swim with one child at a time at Waterside Farm pool on Canvey.
The council brought in the rule after the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management recommended there must be one-to-one supervision for every child under four and one adult for every two children aged five to eight.
Local authorities across the country instituted the rule believing they were duty bound to do so but the move caused great hardship to mums who wanted to take several children swimming.
However, Kay Mullaly, 62, who holds swimming classes at Furtherwick Park School, claimed guidelines issued by the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management (ISRM) had been clarified on its website and now appear less rigid.
Mrs Mullaly, from Long Road, Canvey, said: "The rules are really stopping children going swimming with their families."
