Clacton's inshore lifeboat crew was called out to help an angling boat after it suffered engine failure off Jaywick.
Three people were on board the Don't Panic which was towed back into Bradwell. Clacton coastguard unit was also sent to the incident at 3.20pm on Saturday.
A spokesman for Thames Coastguard at Walton said it was a brand new boat with an inboard diesel engine which broke down.
"It was safely taken back to where it had set out from," he added.
