Mersea Island's win against bottom-placed Thetford may not have been pretty, but the result was the all-important factor.
The game was closely, but it was the Islanders' first triumph of 2005 and meant they ended a run of four consecutive defeats to move out of the relegation zone.
Following an eventful week at the club, which began with the departure of coach Kev Parker, the players needed to pull together and remain totally focussed.
Having already beaten the Norfolk side by over 50 points twice earlier in the season, Mersea could have expected an easy run but the home side were in determined mood and played with passion and pride.
But for all Mersea's territorial advantage and possession, they were unable to break down the resilient home defence very often.
Due to the 6-Nations, Mersea will now have a 2-qweek break before they face another massive league game against Beccles RFC on the 19th.
