Nadia Dring, 19, lost her fight against an inoperable brain tumour and died on January 23.
Her mum, Nicole, 43, of Walter Way, Silver End, said: "She was fun, a real fighter and nothing ever deterred her. She was a terrific kid."
Miss Dring was a pupil at the Ramsey School in Halstead and then studied A-levels at Rickstones College, Witham, but was unable to complete the course.
She had a sister Ebony, six. Her funeral is being held on Thursday at Chelmsford Crematorium.
