A man has died in a fire in Witham.
Scene - the bungalow today. 40798-2
Police discovered the 64-year-old's body at 1.35pm yesterday, following a blaze at a home in Pattison Close. A fire service spokesman said "early indications" were that the fire was caused by smoking materials.
The property was not fitted with a working smoke detector. The man, who is the seventh house fire victim in Essex this year, will not be named until police have notified his family.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out.
