North Essex Chamber of Commerce has met with Postwatch representatives to enable members to air concerns over delivery of their mail.

The Colchester-based Chamber says the postal watchdog provided useful information to help Chamber members understand what changes to the service have been made and to learn how to voice any complaints they may have.

Chamber manager Jason Berry said: "We contacted all our members and asked those who had specific points or a vested interest in the correct delivery of their mail to come along and more than a dozen came to the meeting. The main complaints regard the move to the single delivery policy, as well as lost mail."

Postwatch representative Keith Andrew welcomed the opportunity to talk to Chamber members.

He said: "Four-fifths of the mail that is sent is business related. It is therefore crucial that companies make their feelings known.

"If we are to see improvements to the service then people must speak out."

He said that small mail users who are affected by the single delivery policy but who need a delivery before lunchtime may be able to reach an agreement with their local delivery office managers.

Royal Mail also offers a free service called Mail Collect in certain areas, allowing customers to collect their mail from the local delivery office by prior arrangement.

If you are unhappy with any of the services you are currently receiving from the Royal Mail telephone the customer helpline on: 08457 740 740.

If you do not get a satisfactory response then contact postwatch on 08456 013265 or www.postwatch.co.uk or e-mail info@postwatch.co.uk or write to: Customer Service Postwatch 28-30 Grosvenor Gardens, London, SW1W 0TT.
