Aidan Davison has said he will be buying the Blackburn Rovers groundsman a roller for the pitch at Ewood Park.
The 36-year-old Colchester United keeper was frustrated as his attempt at a clearance from Kevin Watson's back-pass was sliced as it bobbled up in front of him and resulted in an own goal.
It was the catalyst for Blackburn's 3-0 win in the FA Cup fourth round tie on Saturday.
Davison said: "I'm going to have a whip round and I'm going to buy the Rovers groundsman a new roller so he can flatten the pitch, especially around the goal area.
"The ball just bounced up and it came off my laces and into the back of the net. It hasn't ever happened to me before, but it does happen a few times and we see them often in the goalkeeping gaffes videos.
"No doubt that one will probably end up in one."
