A town councillor has defected to another political party.

John Thurlow, a member of Harwich Town Council, has switched from the Community Representatives' Party to Labour.

Mr Thurlow said: "The local Labour councillors have been very supportive and helpful ever since my election to Harwich Town Council. I am now convinced that I can achieve more for the residents of West Central and the people of Harwich as a member of the Labour group."

Mr Thurlow is vice-chairman of the council's Guildhall committee and represents the council at a number of organisations in the town.
