Hooded robbers locked a woman assistant in a storeroom as they carried out a raid on her shop.
The two men burst into Threshers Wine Merchants, in St Osyth Road, Clacton, and the woman was forced into a storeroom at the back of the premises.
The robbers then searched the shop and made off with several hundred pounds in change and a couple of hundred pounds in saving stamps.
An Essex Police spokesman said the assistant was not injured, but spent about 25 minutes locked up.
Police were called to the store at 9.20pm last night. A customer raised the alarm when they went into the shop to find it unattended.
Clacton police have appealed for witnesses to ring 01255 22132 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
