A major mid Essex company has announced 60 staff are to be made redundant.
AMS (Alenia Marconi Systems) in Chelmsford says it needs to cut jobs in order to secure its future. A total of 340 jobs are to go at its sites in Chelmsford, Christchurch, Cowes and Frimley.
In a statement the multi-national electronic systems company says although in 2004 it has continued to develop the business in a challenging and competitive market, changes needed to be made.
The company says wherever possible the reductions will be achieved through voluntary means and, where appropriate, internal redeployment.
AMS is owned by BAE Systems of the UK and Finmeccanica of Italy. The business was formerly owned by Marconi plc but was sold in 2002.
