More than 100 workers in Basildon are set to lose their jobs as part of cuts by engineering giant BAE Systems, it was revealed today.
Falling workloads has forced the company to axe 1,500 jobs across its 13 sites, including up to 108 posts from its avionics business at the Basildon site in Christopher Martin Road.
Basildon and East Thurrock MP Angela Smith said she was "bitterly disappointed" by the move and has been talking to BAE bosses to ensure help is at hand for those who are affected by the cuts.
The majority of cuts are likely to take effect from April.
Mrs Smith said: "People will be very unsure about their future."
