Grays-based runner Jamie Seamark aims to defend his Benfleet 15 title this weekend.
The Thurrock Harrier will take on one of the toughest courses in Essex long distance running. The 15-miler takes competitors from Canvey Ruby Club, over Benfleet Downs, along the sea wall to Leigh and back.
Harriers coach David Staines said: "The course is muddy, hard and one of the most difficult in the county."
"It is going to be a real test for Jamie to see if he can repeat the individual first place he notched up a year ago. If he could it would be a fantastic achievement."
The Harriers team were placed second to Benfleet last year but have not finalised their squad for Sunday's race.
