An elderly man has died two weeks after a boiler exploded at his home.
The 71-year-old man suffered sixty per cent burns to his upper torso, arms, legs, head and neck when he opened the airing cupboard at his home in Mercer Road, Billericay on Saturday afternoon, January 8.
He was taken to Broomfield hospital by air ambulance where he was said to be in a critical yet stable condition.
However more than two weeks after the incident, he suffered complications following his fire-related injuries and eventually died on Tuesday.
It is believed that the victim's clothes caught alight as he opened the airing cupboard and there was an explosion, which forced him into the bedroom.
