A march and rally is to be held in protest at drastic budget cuts at Southend Council which could lead to more than 40 jobs being axed.
Unions have urged the public to support their campaign on Saturday at noon at Pier Hill.
The move came after the council said it needed to cut services including seven community centres, its mobile library, reduce its subsidised bus routes and sell the Palace Theatre in order to save £5 million.
Deputy council leader Tony North said warning letters had been sent out, while other employees have been personally asked to consider voluntary resignation.
He said: "We cannot quantify the job losses at the moment. But if people are made redundant, we will do everything we can to find them other jobs within the council."
The march is planned on Saturday from Pier Hill at noon.
