Children's lives are being put at risk by a further delay to road safety measures around their school, it has been claimed.
Essex County Council has agreed to extend the deadline for works near the site of Harwich Primary School in Barrack Lane to August 31.
Lawrie Payne, chairman of governors, said: "They are playing Russian roulette with the lives of pupils at our school."
He said he was angry and disappointed by the decision taken at a meeting of the development and regulation committee at County Hall.
It had been expected that a deadline of March 31 was to be agreed for the improvements to be carried out. But that was extended by another five months.
