Heybridge Swifts have appointed Brian Statham as first-team manager.

The Ryman League premier division side plumped for the former Tottenham Hotspur professional after spending two months pondering over the decision.

Statham's professional career saw him play for England under-20s and under-21s and make over 30 appearances for Spurs.

He subsequently moved to Brentford and Gillingham, with over 350 professional appearances in total.

After injury cut short his professional career, Statham moved into the non-league scene as a player and a coach, most notably at Chesham United.
