A mother told today how she was attacked and robbed as she walked home in the dark.
Police are warning women to take extra care when out alone as they fear the man could strike again.
Caroline Vaclavik was in Main Road, Dovercourt, close to the cemetery, at 3am yesterday when she was hit on the back of the head. By the time she realised what had happened, the mugger had disappeared.
"I didn't hear anything until there was a footstep to the side of me," she said.
Mrs Vaclavik, 39, of Ramsey, had concealed her handbag in a plastic carrier bag. It contained £40 in cash, as well as her daughter's family credit allowance, a child benefit book and details of a hospital appointment.
