Anglia Polytechnic University is applying to change its name.
The university, which has its main campus in Chelmsford, is giving local residents, communities and businesses, as well as its own staff and students, the chance to give their opinion on the name change.
Three options being considered for submission to the Privy Council, the Government body which has final approval of university titles.
If the proposal is successful, the university could be known within just a few months as either Anglia University, Anglia Ruskin University or Anglia Metropolitan University.
The final three contenders were chosen from over 200 possible names put forward.
