Police and residents have objected to an application by a seafront pub to extend its opening hours.
Smithys in Eastern Esplanade, Southend, wants to extend the hours when it can have public entertainment until 1am on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 12.30am on Sundays.
Southend Council's technical services director David Watts said a similar application was considered and refused by the committee in January last year.
During the last 18 months, there had seven noise complaints regarding either Smithys or the adjoining Dreams night club which is under the same ownership.
