Calls for Clacton to get a new hospital are gaining support.
Tendring Primary Care Trust (PCT) is currently constructing a new £12.3 million facility for Harwich. Now residents and councillors in Clacton believe the expanding seaside resort should benefit from similar treatment.
Gordon Beare, secretary of the Tendring Pensioners' Action Group, made a plea for a new hospital to be built at a recent meeting of the PCT's board.
He put forward a possible site off the Little Clacton bypass and wanted an A&E department included in the scheme.
Tendring PCT is currently out to consultation on what people would like to see included in the next wave of facilities to be provided under Local Improvement Finance Trust funding.
Chairman David Rex said that process would involve looking at a number of new projects and that Clacton would be under consideration.
