Essex wants to shed its 'white stiletto' image and promote itself as an 'significant cultural destination'.
The Essex Development and Regeneration Agency, funded by the taxpayer, is offering up to £37,000-a-year to a 'project director' who will be a 'key player in transforming the Essex cultural landscape.'
The agency says its 'Essex cultural tourism programme' will celebrate distinctiveness and convey positive images.
The agency, an offshoot of Essex County Council, advertised for the project director in the Guardian newspaper yesterday. A spokeswoman said there had been a lot of interest in the post.
The new three-year partnership will be funded by Essex local authorities and Art Council England, East, to promote Essex as a significant cultural destination.
