The search for a new base for police patrolling Frinton and Walton could be abandoned, it has been revealed.

Instead, the police are looking at keeping their outmoded police station in a converted Victorian house in Walton and doing it up.

At the same time, they would completely overhaul the vacant former home of the traffic police at Thorpe, which was closed nearly two years ago because of fears over its structural state.

The search for a new site to build a new station to serve the area has proved difficult.

Now, however, the need for an up-to-date station with more room has been made more pressing following the introduction of three police community support officers to cover the area.
