A good Samaritan who stopped to help at a motorway smash was killed when he was hit by a car driven by an off-duty policeman, a court has heard.
Daniel Gammell, 29, didn't hesitate when one of the vehicles in the smash burst into flames - but it cost him his life when he rushed to help the occupants, a jury was told.
Mr Gammell, from Basildon, was hit by a car being driven by off-duty PC Matthew Monaghan, who was on his way home after having just finished a ten-hour shift.
The accident happened on the M62 in Greater Manchester, the city's Minshull Street Crown Court was told.
The trial continues
