Harwich's Rhyme Against Crime will be celebrating its tenth anniversary when it goes into seven primary schools at the end of February.
But for PC Ian Birch, 20, of Harwich police, it brings back memories of when he wrote a poem for the scheme in its first year - when he was at Chase Lane Primary School in Dovercourt.
PC Birch said: "I distinctly remember watching PC Colin Hance and councillor Garry Calver give the presentation on vandalism and then we all set about writing our poems.
"Unfortunately, I did not win but no-one could suggest that I didn't take on board the message about us all doing something important to help the police."
