Pubs and clubs in Tendring will not be looking to open up 24 hours a day when drinking laws are relaxed.
And residents should not be worried there will be a major increase in violence, disturbances and anti-social behaviour due to a rise in boozing.
That is the confident message from Tendring Council licensing offficer Alan Tolmie, who will be responsible for overseeing the new regulations across the district.
He said he had been involved in talks with traders, licensees, the police and fire services, trading standards and solicitors who will be involved in making applications.
"At this time the take-up for 24-hour licences from premises in Tendring is nil," he said.
"It is not viable for them and none could satisfy the four targets they would have to achieve to meet the criteria."
