A football club chairman has spoken out for the first time following alleged racial abuse aimed at one of his players.
Lee Harding, chairman of Braintree Town Football Club, has written a strongly-worded letter to the Football Association (FA) to register his concern over alleged remarks made to Iron captain Ollie Adedeji.
The incident, reported for the first time exclusively in the Gazette last Wednesday, is said to have occurred during the club's 4-2 win at Wealdstone Town on January 15 in the Ryman League Premier Division.
Mr Harding said: "During the first half, I was aware that our players were on the receiving end of some distasteful remarks from a certain section of the crowd and I spent the second half wandering around the ground.
"The remarks made after the break were particularly nasty and I felt I had no alternative than to speak with the match referee after the game."
A spokesman for the FA said: "We are aware of the incident and are awaiting reports back from all parties involved before taking any further action."
