The villagers at Kirby Cross claim semi-rural communities like theirs are being turned into mini-towns but without the infrastructure to cope.
More than 40 people attended a meeting to protest over detailed plans to build 49 homes which they say are too big and will strain village facilities.
Outline planning permission was granted after the number of homes on the East Coast Disposal site off Thorpe Road was cut back from 70 to 49.
Both Frinton and Walton Town Council and the village community watchdog group Kirby Residents Association have condemned the proposals as overdevelopment. The final decision is down to Tendring Council.
Developer Barratt Eastern Counties maintains the scheme is in line with Government and planning guidelines.
