A new civic amenity and recycling site for Braintree has been given the go ahead.
The site, on Springwood Drive, is currently derelict and covered by a mound of earth. Bins will be recessed into the ground for residents to deposit metal, glass, textiles, paper and garden waste for recycling, with an estimated 8,000 tonnes of material dumped every year.
Household appliances, car batteries and waste oil will also be collected for recycling.
Plans for the recycling site were approved at a meeting of Essex County Council's development and regulation committee on Friday.
