A nail technician who cycled 400 kilometres across Russia has called on others to take up a charity challenge of a lifetime.

Adventurous - Emma Potter, left, who completed a 400 km cycle ride across Russia last year, and hospice director Rosy Stamp who is undertaking a 129 km trek through the Brazilian rainforest, are both urging others to take up the trek challenge to help Colchester's hospice. Emma Potter, of Simply Nails in Colchester, raised £9,500 in donations and sponsorship for St Helena Hospice, when she pedalled from Moscow to St Petersburg.

The hospice's flagship fundraiser for 2005 is a trek through the spectacular scenery of the Brazilian rainforest.

And Emma told the Gazette intrepid adventurers who took the plunge would be in for a never-to-be-forgotten experience.

She said: "I would recommend anyone thinking about doing one of these sorts of trips to give it a go. It is a huge challenge but you get such a sense of achievement at the end of it."

An open evening will be held on Wednesday for anyone interested in learning more about the trip. The information session will run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm in the education centre of the hospice in Barncroft Close, High Woods, Colchester.
