CANVEY midfielder Ollie Berquez admitted his delight at getting another defence in a fine mess after continuing his rich vein of scoring form.

Berquez nabbed his sixth goal in five games as Gulls moved further clear of the Nationwide Conference drop zone with a 3-0 home win over play-off chasing Stevenage Borough to complete their first double.

It took the Islanders' undefeated home run to five games and Berquez admitted: "When the season started I set myself a goal target of 10 from midfield.

"Well the one I got today was my 10th and now I feel I can get to at least 15 by the end of the campaign. Obviously it's been our toughest season yet now we're at this high level, but we've been playing some good stuff recently.

"We all feel that we can keep moving up the table to finish in a healthy position and if we can combine that with another good FA Trophy run it will be another good year for us."
