A small group of protesters mounted a peaceful demonstration before the concert took place at Chelmsford Cathedral last night.
They were angry that actors from the controversial West End musical were invited as they believe the show is blasphemous.
But their demonstration did little to deter the 750 concertgoers who packed out the cathedral.
The event, called A New World, had been hastily arranged to raise money for the victims of the Asian tsunami.
The concert raised at least £7,500.
