About 2,350 visitors took the chance to tour the Roman chariot-racing stadium unearthed at the new garrison development in Colchester.
And it could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience as the stunning remains are to be reburied to protect them.
People had to queue for up to an hour at Saturday's event.
