IN another productive weekend for borough teams Grays maintained their impressive lead at the top of the Conference South with a 2-0 home triumph against Weston-super-Mare on Saturday.
Leroy Griffiths opened their account with a 31st minute goal, but the match wasn't made safe until deep in stoppage time at the end of the second half when Stuart Thurgood added a second from the spot.
Saturday brought a double celebration for Thurgood, who learned he is one of two Grays players selected for the initial 32 man squad for the England against Holland match to be played at Woking FC's Kingfield Stadium on the February 16. Mitchell Cole is the other Blue in consideration.
Thurrock FC kept up their prmotion challenge with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Weymouth, who had taken a ninth minute lead.
Glenn Poole put Thurrock level from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time and Kris Lee got the winner on 76 minutes.
East Thurrock United's Southern League Division One East play-off hopes remain high after an emphatic 5-1 win at Earith and Belevedere, thanks to two goals apiece from Vinnie John and Danny Hayzelden and one from Danny Harris.
Aveley also enjoyed a win against relegation strugglers, beating Dartford 2-0 at Millfield with goals from Simon Thomas and Steve Jones.
With Dartford and Earith beaten, Tilbury had the chance to make up ground at the bottom of the table, but could only benefit with by one point, earned in a goalless draw at Chatham Town.
